Escape The Echoes – A Media Literacy Escape Game

Escape The Echoes is a one-hour educational escape game that helps students develop media literacy skills through an engaging, team-based gaming experience.

The game requires teams to navigate through a series of digital media puzzles and activities that involve the utilization of one or more media literacy skills. Specifically, the game focuses on the formation of media filter bubbles and their impact on human behavior and society. The game is designed to be played in an in-person, virtual, or hybrid setting at schools or other educational institutions.

Media Literacy Week: “Productive Conversations without Confrontation”

Join the library and University of Kansas Associate Professor Ashley Muddiman for an evening of intentional bridge building during Media Literacy Week.

Our topic will be productive conversations without confrontation. We’ll watch the News Literacy Project’s collaboration with the National Institute for Civil Discourse and the League of Women Voters, then share a community conversation about ways we can interact with family, friends, and neighbors regarding the access, analysis, and evaluation of media messages we receive.

Media Literacy, AI & Journalism: the Challenges and Opportunities

Artificial Intelligence has led journalists to question how they’ll report. While the benefits of AI include simplifying complex topics and assisting with questions for interviews, many find it can’t always be trusted.

At this event presented in partnership with the Center for Communication, experts in the field from SmartNewsThe Information, The Center for Public Integrity, Vanity Fair and more discuss how journalists can use artificial intelligence as a resource, while also being mindful of its limitations.

This event will take place in person at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library on the 7th Floor. Learn more about the event here.

To join the event in-person | Doors will open 30 minutes before the program begins. For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house.
