This activity uses Mason’s (2015) M.I.T.S. framework to help students critically analyze commercials by separating and examining script, video, and audio before viewing them together. Using ads like Reagan’s 1984 “Bear in the Woods,” students reflect on how media techniques shape meaning, then apply guiding questions about main ideas, images, text, and sounds to deepen understanding of political and commercial messages.
