For Parents

Parent’s Guide to Media Literacy

Trend Micro worked with NAMLE to create a parent’s guide to assist families in starting media literacy conversations at home.

The guide uses real-life examples to focus on one simple piece of advice: teach your kids to ask questions. Download your free copy of the parent’s guide and tell your neighbors where to find theirs.

The Parent’s Guide is also available in Spanish and Greek here.

Common Sense Media rates movies, TV shows, books, and more so parents can feel good about the entertainment choices they make for their kids.

Common Sense Kids Action partners with policymakers, business leaders, and other advocates to ensure that all kids have the opportunity to succeed. Their advocacy platform highlights legislation related to technology to keep parents and educators informed.

Canada’s MediaSmarts has published a variety of resources for parents, including a blog, games, a tip sheet, guides, workshops and tutorials, and videos.

Check out these resources as well as the Canadian Media Literacy Week information.

The Civics of Technology project has a parents’ page with blog posts, testimonials, and advocacy letters for those interested in participating in discussions of what educational technologies should (and should not) be used with children in and out of schools. .
