In Libraries We Trust: How Libraries Can Lead the Way in Fighting Misinformation

October 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm UTC-4

Library patrons are bombarded with information daily, but the line between fact and fiction is often blurred. Misinformation and bias are rampant on social media, eroding the public’s confidence in what they read online. Spam, clickbait, and malicious websites masquerade as legitimate news sources. AI-generated content and the increasing commodification of search engines like Google further complicate independent information seeking. Where do people turn when they need objective information? According to recent research, libraries rank higher than Congress, the Supreme Court, and the police when it comes to public trust. Trustworthy information is critical for patrons of all ages, from public school students dipping their toes into the world of learning to retirees researching important issues of the day. In this American Libraries Live webinar, sponsored by SirsiDynix’s CloudSource, learn more about the ongoing fight against misinformation—and how libraries can help patrons come out on top.

Together, we will:

• Explore what the data says about patrons’ perceptions of libraries

• Discuss what patrons report they need most

• Demonstrate how CloudSource OA can help by providing quality, peer-reviewed open access and open educational resources suitable for every patron at every library – with one click and no authentication required

Our featured panelist: Maryśka Connolly, CloudSource director of partnerships and communications
