Event Description:
To celebrate Media Literacy Week, Oviatt Library and the Journalism Department are hosting a screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary Digital Disconnect: How Capitalism is Turning the Internet Against Democracy.

Based on the work of renowned scholar Robert McChesney, the documentary traces how the Internet and our digital devices have revolutionized our lives – the way we work, play, connect and communicate – and compromised our privacy and national security. McChesney helps make sense of how we’ve entrapped ourselves in ideological filter bubbles and empowered the spread of “fake” news at the expense of truth, accuracy, and real journalism creating a toxic information environment.

Join us for the documentary and tweet about the highlights while you watch tweets will be displayed on-screen simultaneously with the film: #MediaLitWk | @MediaLiteracyED

Enjoy light refreshments and enter a giveaway for a campus store gift card. This event is brought to you by Jour 372 Diversity and Media’s Commit2MediaLit Project, a community engagement collaboration with the Center for Media Literacy, and Oviatt Library.
