After losing her father in 1988 in the bombing of Pan Am 103, Michelle’s life played out on the screen through decades of investigation, anniversaries, and grief. Inspired by reading “Who Owns Amanda Knox?” in the Atlantic in July 2021, Michelle connected with Amanda Knox about her incredible insight on how media narratives are shaped and why it’s important for both news and entertainment media to realize that they are often writing about real people with real lives. Join us for a virtual workshop that explores the intersection between play, critical The event will present thoughts and evidence on the effectiveness of engaging children on important topics like media literacy, through play. Alma’s Way head writer Jorge Aguirre will speak about ways to incorporate play and critical thinking into children’s media. It will then engage participants in a fun and interactive demonstration of the LEGO Group’s Build & Talk “pack” focused on critical thinking.

Build & Talk is a tool designed to help parents and caregivers have meaningful conversations around challenging yet important online topics with children in early elementary school, in a language all children can understand, play.

To celebrate Media Literacy Week, Reuters and the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) are bringing together journalists, educators, and students to discuss challenges journalists face in the field, fact-checking and misinformation, and why finding credible information matters.
